DOCTOR ATE JUNK FOOD FOR A MONTH

A British physician used his body as a test subject on the effect of processed food on the human body. For four weeks – four grueling weeks – Chris van Tulleken, an infectious diseases doctor, ate nothing but delicious, delicious frozen pizza, greasy fried chicken, savory fish sticks, enjoyable cereals and other ready-made meals. Van Tulleken chronicled the effects of the diet in a new BBC show, “What Are We Feeding Our Kids?” He says, “My libido, hemorrhoids, heartburn … everything got worse. I was anxious, depressed — and it was all self-perpetuating.” The otherwise healthy 42-year-old was constantly nagged by hunger pangs; he had difficulty sleeping due to his urge to eat more because “when you digest it there is nothing nutritious there — so you keep eating.” The toll the diet took on his mental health was equally alarming, said van Tulleken. An MRI proved that his poor diet had the effect of drugs or alcohol to an addict. Even months after the experiment ended, the neurological changes have lingered. He says that one month on a junk food diet has shaved 10 years off his life.
* How does he know that?
* Look at the bright side: That’s 10 years you won’t have to be eating British food.
* I thought we settled this issue with the movie “Super Size Me”?
* Anybody think the fast food industry is secretly owned by the pharmaceutical industry that makes remedies for the bad effects of the fast food industry?
* What a wuss. Come to America, doc. We’ve got 8-year-olds who can eat you for breakfast.
