COUPLE DIES OF BUBONIC PLAGUE AFTER EATING RAW MONGOLIAN MARMOT ORGANS
It’s finally safe to travel to Mongolia again. The country has lifted its six-day quarantine after a couple that had eaten raw marmot meat died of suspected bubonic plague. The Russian couple – a 38-year-old man and his 37-year-old pregnant wife – reportedly fell ill April 27 after hunting and eating contaminated raw marmot kidney in Mongolia. They died three days later, leaving behind four kids. Marmot meat is considered a folk remedy for good health in the region. The incident prompted Mongolian officials to ban tourists from coming or going. The 118 people who came in contact with the couple – including seven tourists from Switzerland, Sweden, Kazakhstan and South Korea – were isolated and treated with antibiotics as a precautionary measure. But by Monday, a number of tourists were finally able to leave the area.
* So Mongolian marmots have a big bubonic anti-vaxxer movement over there.
* And I suppose the weasels have measles?
* It’s almost as if marmot meat being a folk remedy for good health doesn’t work.
* That’s just what they tell tourists when they get on their nerves.
* If you can’t eat raw marmot kidneys, what’s the point of going to Mongolia anymore?
* If only raw marmot kidney wasn’t so darn delicious.
* The ironic part? Eating raw marmot kidneys was on their bucket list.
* This must be why they have all those cooks at the Mongolian barbecue places.
