CHINESE MAN THROWS COINS INTO AIRPLANE ENGINE FOR “GOOD LUCK”

A man is being sued by a Chinese airline after throwing coins into the engine for “good luck”. The 28-year-old man, named only as Lu, admitted to tossing the coins when Lucky Air staff quizzed passengers after finding two coins on the ground near the left engine. Throwing coins to bring good luck is a common Chinese superstition. People tossing coins into airplane engines is a fairly regular occurrence in China. In this case, the flight, departing from Anqing, was canceled due to safety concerns. The 162 passengers were flown the next day following a full engine check. The airline is suing the man for the cost of the flight cancellation, which was 140,000 yuan ($21,000), and announced legal action would be taken against the passenger.
