CANADIAN FUNERAL HOMES NOW HAVE A ROOM WHERE YOU CAN DIE

Medical Assistance in Dying – medically assisted suicide – has been legal in Canada since 2016. Last year, in 2020, there were around 7,600 medically assisted deaths. But the movement has spurred an interesting side hustle in the funeral industry. People are asking funeral homes if they have a room where the procedure can take place. The funeral homes are responding. One such place, Northview Funeral Chapel in London, Ontario, says some people don’t want to end their life in a hospital, and they also wanted to avoid having the death happen at home. They converted the coffin showroom to a lovely, comfortable place where family members can gather around a bed and be there for the end. Funeral home owner Paul Needham says, “They can make it how they want it, bring some of your favorite music, bring flowers, bring some food or if you like, bring a bottle of wine. This is this person’s last day on Earth. You want to take everything into account and consider as many things as possible.”
* And the deceased can save on bus fare to the funeral home. He’s already there!
* Use the savings to throw a nice wake.
* In a couple weeks, that funeral home is going to have more ghosts hanging around than the Titanic.
* Now all they need is one of those Sweeney Todd barber chairs sitting over a trap door to the basement.
* A beautiful death in a lovely room. I believe this was covered in the middle of the movie “Soylent Green.” So we’re only a few more years away until we reach the logical conclusion of Soylent Green.
