BEER COMPANY REPLACES PLASTIC SIX-PACK RINGS WITH GLUE
Danish beer brewer Carlsberg has created what it believes is a world-first – a six-pack of beer held together by glue. The design is set to reduce the company’s use of plastic packaging by more than 75 percent. Carlsberg spent three years developing the technology to replace traditional plastic rings and wrapping. After testing more than 4,000 different glues, the company said it’s found one strong enough to withstand the journey from shelf to home, but that is also easy to break when twisted.
* A six-pack of beer? No – a stick-pack of beer!
* They tested more than 4,000 kinds of glue? I would have gone with duct tape, but whatever.
* It’s nice to see a new invention coming out of Denmark every couple centuries.
* Saving the planet while drinking beer. What could be better? Well, drinking something other than Carlsberg, but give the idea time to catch on.
* No more sea creatures getting stuck in six-pack rings. Lots more animals swallowing gobs of glue.
