AUDIO: TEXAS SPEEDER SAYS SPEEDING IS NOT A CRIME. COP BEGS TO DIFFER.
When Scott Richardson, 49, was pulled over in Addison, Texas, on May 2 for speeding – allegedly doing 50 mph in a 40 mph zone – he claimed he didn’t have to cooperate with police because speeding isn’t a crime. The police officer disagreed. When the officer came over, Richardson started recording the incident on his phone. Speaking through a window opened just a crack, he said: “Speeding in and of itself is not a crime. According to the state of Texas, the actual – um – it is the – um – oh, you know, the attorney general. Not the attorney general but the prosecutor. Yes, the DA! The DA is the one who stated on page 19 that speeding in and of itself is not a crime. It is not illegal.” The officer warns that he will break the window if Richardson doesn’t present ID. And then, he does, and pulls Richardson from the car. He placed Richardson under arrest for failure to identify. Later in the video, the officer can be heard speaking to someone else and says, “He’s giving me the Republic of Texas crap.” The Texas “sovereign citizens” movement is one where people claim they are not subject to laws of the state or federal government. In the end, Richardson was not charged with speeding and was instead given just a warning on that charge, but he was charged with driving with an invalid license, driving with an expired license plate and failure to present his license upon lawful demand.
* So it all worked out then.
* Letting him off the speeding rap is just going to encourage him.
* I have a feeling this “sovereign citizens” movement is not going to end up winning.
* Now see? If the cop could break this guy’s window, why couldn’t the guy in that other story break out the Corvette’s window?
* The Republic of Texas? Hey, the NFL wants to expand to other countries. Maybe this is how to do it.
* “Speeding in and of itself isn’t a crime?” Sorry, but anytime someone says “in and of itself” you know you’re about to get a load of B.S.
* So what is speeding then … you know … according to the Republic of Texas?
