AUDIO: REPORTER HELPS GUY GET OUT OF FLOOD ON LIVE TV

KTRX, Houston, reporter Steve Campion was covering the flood when he became part of the story, leaping to the aid of a driver attempting to swim away from his submerged vehicle. Campion was live on air for ABC13 and still holding his microphone when a man, whose car became submerged in the flooding, swam away from his car. Footage shows Campion wading into chest-deep water and pulling the man to safety. He then interviews the man. And keeps calling him “dude”.
* Steve Campion? More like Steve Champion!
* Still holding the microphone? Ah, a true professional.
* At that point it wasn’t a microphone chord – it was a lifeline.
* Lucky they weren’t all electrocuted.
* This is usually called getting too close to the story.
* “ABC13, winning loyal viewers one rescue at a time!”
* This is putting a lot of pressure on the other TV stations’ reporters.
* “Can you get one of your friends to act like he’s drowning for the 6 pm report?”
* You know it’s bad when you need a speedboat to cover a story in Houston.
* The rain’s been coming down like Golden State three-pointers on the Houston Rockets.
CLIP: Steve Campion helps man from the water after yelling at him to leave the car.
