AT LAST, THE EDIBLE SIX-PACK RING
For years the world has known the devastating effects that plastic six-pack rings can have to both wildlife and the environment. Finally, a better, more sustainable alternative to packaging has been created. Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach, Florida, recently released edible six-pack rings, a brand-new approach to sustainable beer packaging. These six-pack rings are 100 percent biodegradable and edible – constructed of barley and wheat ribbons from the brewing process. They can actually be safely eaten by animals that may come into contact with the refuse. It is, understandably, more expensive to produce, but the company believes that many customers are willing to pay the difference knowing that it’s better for the environment and animal life. However, if more breweries would implement this technology, the production cost would lower and be competitive with the current plastic options, saving hundreds of thousands of marine lives.
* I don’t think people are going to be crazy about having to take off the six-pack rings and drive them to the nearest ocean.
* This is smart because sea creatures in the wild love to eat barley and wheat.
* If they come from the brewing process can the fish at least get a little buzz on?
* Good to see America’s beer technology making such great strides. Now, about those flyin’ cars …
* This is great news. The oceans will be stripped of all life soon anyways, but at least we tried.
* Edible six-pack rings do work, but say goodbye to those six-pack abs.
* Maybe we could get some stoners to eat the rings. When they get the munchies, they’ll eat anything.
* How can we take this idea seriously when their other idea was a Saltwater Brewery?
* This is a good idea with nothing but positives for the earth so I give it around a 1 in 100 chance of being implemented.
