ADVENTURE COMPANY MINISUB HITS TITANIC WRECK

The wreck of the Titanic was struck by a submarine hired by a British adventure company. It happened last July. EYOS, a British company that charters unique expeditions, was taking some scientists from Newcastle University 12,500 feet below the North Atlantic surface to the wreckage when “intense and highly unpredictable currents” caused the operator to lose control of the sub and bump into the starboard hull. The team deposited what they described as “two science samples,” and took off (* Before anyone could come out to yell at them). The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which is responsible for protecting deep-sea wrecks, are upset that it took EYOS and the expedition leader this long to admit the incident.
* So – they didn’t leave a note?
* Intense currents 12,500 feet below the surface, on the ocean floor. Come on, how stoned were they?
* Really, how much more damage could they have caused?
* If I was in a submarine that accidentally bumped into the Titanic, I’d drop a science sample myself, if you know what I mean.
* I bet James Cameron could make a Titanic II sequel out of this little escapade.
