M&M'S WANTS TO TAKE CANDY OUT OF MCFLURRIES, OTHER TREATS

Mars Inc. is considering taking its M&Ms out of sugary desserts, including McDonald’s McFlurry. An industry source said the company has had talks with McDonald’s and other partners about its candies’ inclusion in already high-calorie products. Mars is concerned desserts that feature its candies – such as the McFlurry, Burger King’s Snickers pie and Dairy Queen’s Blizzard – exceed in a single serving the amount of sugar the U.S. government recommends anyone eat in a day. That kind of sugar load conflicts with Mars’ new public stance that sweets are best enjoyed in moderation. The company has promised publicly to limit sugar in all of its products.
* Not adding M&Ms to a double hot fudge caramel sundae? I don’t know if I want to live in this Bizarro world.
* For extra health, the M&Ms in these treats will be replaced by little balls of kale.
* Seriously, I predict within 90 days the M&Ms are replaced by Reese’s Pieces.
* I always follow the government recommendation for sugar in a day. Of course, right now I’m 75 years ahead.
* “Sweets are best enjoyed in moderation,” something Americans are really great at.
* Usually when a corporation makes a move like this it’s “Head off the lawsuits” time.
* “Yes, we’d like you to use way less of our product so we can downsize and eventually fail.”
* Careful, there’s got to be some catch here.
* Mars Inc. now recommends eating only 10 M&M’s a day. That’s why they’re introducing the new 8-ounce M&M.
