MONK STOLE MONEY FROM TEMPLE FOR GAMBLING ADDICTION
A Buddhist monk from Louisiana was arrested and charged with looting his own temple of roughly $150,000 to fund weekly casino binges. Khang Le, the top monk at the Vietnamese Buddhist Association of Lafayette, Louisiana, developed a blackjack infatuation beginning in 2011 and began making secret visits to the L’Auberge Casino in Lake Charles. Unable to finance the spiraling addiction with his humble $1,000-per-month salary, Le began to make massive withdrawals from the temple’s private accounts. Le stated he would spend between $5,000 and $10,000 every two or three days at the casino playing blackjack. He admitted to having a gambling problem and admitted that he was utilizing Temple funds to gamble. Le told investigators that he always went to the casino alone and sought out quiet corners in order to obscure his shameful conduct.
* You dummy! You can’t hide from Buddha!
* If this was the top monk, imagine what the lower monks are up to.
* So in gambling terms, the monk was a mark.
* In Buddhism you’re supposed to let it go, but instead he let it ride.
* He kind of combined the high roller with the holy roller, no?
* Come on, folks, the premise is “gambling Buddhist monk.” I’m doing the best I can here.
* When it comes to possibilities for jokes, this story dealt me a bad hand.
* What did the gambling Buddhist monk say when the police asked him if he preferred jail or house arrest? “It’s all the same to me.”
* Don’t worry. He plans to make all the money back betting on LSU football games.
* Here’s some advice to the monk: This would be a very good time to play the religious card.
* This is serious. You might even try saying God asked you to do this.
