WAFFLE HOUSE SERVES ONE BILLIONTH WAFFLE
The Waffle House restaurant chain claims it just served its one billionth waffle. Darren Jarrett, Waffle House Senior Vice President of Operations for Atlanta, said the company’s waffle analysts have been watching this billion-waffle mark for a long time. They gave the word yesterday that it was going to happen around 10 o’clock Tuesday. And it did, at the Centennial Park restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. Billionth waffle purchaser Shanneil McCollum, dining in an Atlanta Waffle House, received a round of applause, some balloons, a plastic plaque, a goodie bag, and a free waffle. She said, “I love their waffles. I’m happy.” The first Waffle House in Avondale Estates, outside of Atlanta, on September 5, 1955. Since then, the company has opened more than 1,800 restaurants in 25 states.
* The response from McDonalds? “Amateurs!”
* When you stop counting the billions and change your sign to “Billions and billions served,” then you can talk.
* A billion waffles served, and I think we can all see where all those carbohydrates ended up.
* Funny that the billionth waffle would be served in the same town, and exactly 60 years later, that the first restaurant opened. Those “analysts” wouldn’t happen to work in the marketing department, would they?
* The Waffle House is a bad name. It sounds like you can’t decide whether to go in or not.
* They gave the billionth waffle purchaser a plastic plaque? Wow! Way to pull out all the stops.
* I’m sorry, I didn’t mention the waffle was free. That makes it a lot better.
* Waffles are okay but I’m more a pancake person myself.
* I will admit the waffle shape is far superior at holding syrup, but pancakes don’t look like they came out of a machine press.
* Here’s a question: Why do waffles and pancakes taste different? They both come from the same batter.
