VALENTINE’S DAY BANNED IN PAKISTAN
If you live in Pakistan, your Valentine’s Day plans just got squelched. The Islamabad High Court in Pakistan’s capital issued an order that bans celebration of the holiday across the country – effective immediately. They apparently feel the holiday is “too Western” and threatened to undermine Islamic values. The order “prohibits the display of ads on electronic and print media that reference Valentine’s Day; it bans the sale of Valentine’s merchandise; and it states that the day cannot be celebrated in “any public space or government building.” The order was in response to a private petition which argued the festival promotes immorality, nudity and indecency under the guise of celebrating love.
* So they found us out.
* Who snitched?
* Say goodbye to that romantic goat dinner for two.
* A Valentine’s card in Pakistan: “No roses, no candy, no baubles or bangles / But baby, you know I’m turned on by your ankles.”
* Pakistani candy heart messages: Hello … Nice Weather We’re Having … Seen Any Good Cricket Matches Lately? … Do you have the correct time?
* How can we get a ruling like this here?
* I bet they don’t call the guy who made this ruling over there a “so-called judge.”
* You can understand the ruling. If the Pakistani People start celebrating love, it could spread from South Asia and the entire Middle East could fall apart.
* Then the next thing you know the people of the region will start wondering about having fun.
* It’s also an efficiency thing. Males in Pakistan are allowed to have 4 wives, so you could see how Valentine’s Day could get tricky.
