WHY YOU’RE NOT GETTING THAT PROMOTION
CareerBuilder.com surveyed more than 2,000 human resource managers across the U.S., and came up with these nine admittedly superficial factors as things that would dissuade them from promoting an employee:
– 44% were less likely to promote an employee who wore provocative clothing to work.
– 43% were less likely to promote an employee who wore wrinkled clothes.
– 32% were less likely to promote an employee with piercings other than traditional ear piercings.
– 27% were less likely to promote an employee who frequently wore clothing that was too casual for the workplace.
– 27% were less likely to promote an employee with visible tattoos.
– 25% were less likely to promote an employee with an unprofessional hairstyle.
– 24% were less likely to promote an employee with constant bad breath.
– 21% were less likely to promote an employee who wore too much perfume or cologne.
– 15% were less likely to promote an employee who wore too much makeup.
* So basically try to look like the people in “Mad Men.”
* On the other hand, if you’re looking to be president of your local biker club, congratulations, Mr. President, you nailed it.
* Anybody else picturing Travis Barker?
* One other factor: You did a mediocre job.
* So, they’re okay with embezzling and stealing stuff?
* Since when does the human resource manager hand out promotions anyway?
* Frankly, the human resource manager position is where you stash an executive who has no chance of getting promoted themselves.
* There … I just got even for all the job interviews I went to that didn’t work out.
* One other way not to get promoted: You’ve got a job in the GOP, but you spent the entire campaign trashing Donald Trump.
