BRIDE COMPLAINS THAT WEDDING GIFT WASN’T BIG ENOUGH
A wedding guest has sparked internet outrage (* outrage!) after posting to a forum on Mumsnet asking for advice because she was told the £100 ($144) check she gave to the bride and groom wasn’t enough. The wedding guest revealed how the couple, who had asked for cash gifts, had emailed to say they were ‘surprised’ by her contribution and suggested an adjustment. “We were surprised that your contribution didn’t seem to match the warmth of your good wishes on our big day. In view of your own position, if you wanted to send any adjustment it would be thankfully received.” The reference to her position was most likely about a recent inheritance. The woman writes, “Please, anyone, what do I do now? I’ve never come across anything like this before and still can’t quite believe they’ve done it – but since they have, should I reply, call them, ignore it, or what?”
* Send them a printout of the responses to your post. That oughtta learn ’em.
* Come on, honey, catered wedding dinners are expensive. Cough it up.
* I’d say stop payment on the check and tell them to hose off.
* As long as the cash gift is the equivalent of a blender or waffle iron, you should be okay.
* “We’ve since computed that the warmth of your good wishes equates to an extra 50 bucks.”
* I didn’t know wedding gifts were negotiable.
* Just give them a copy of Trump’s “The Art of the Deal” and let them figure it out.
* PHONE TOPIC: What should this woman do to the bride and groom who asked for more money?
