TODAY IS …
(All days repeat annually on today’s date unless otherwise noted; days may or may not be called “National”/”International”/”World” depending on source; sources listed often have additional info. We generally do not list special days which were created by commercial companies for the purpose of marketing – including “holidays” created by the National Day Calendar and Wellcat websites to drive traffic to their websites – or the hundreds of disease awareness listings which occur each year. We present only those specially designated days we feel your listeners would find most interesting or significant.)
BOSTON MARATHON / PATRIOT’S DAY
The Boston Marathon is held in the city of Boston, Massachusetts on Patriot’s Day, the third Monday of April. First held in 1897, it is the world’s oldest annual marathon. Patriots’ Day is an annual event, formalized as a legal holiday or a special observance day in seven U.S. states, commemorating the battles of Lexington, Concord, and Menotomy, the inaugural battles of the American Revolutionary War. The holiday occurs annually on the third Monday in April in four states and on April 19 in three, with celebrations including battle reenactments.
KINDERGARTEN DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“Kindergarten Day is celebrated in honor of Friedrich Froebel. He was born on this day in 1782. In 1837, he started the first Kindergarten in Germany. It became popular quickly. Kindergartens were originally a 1/2 day to get children acclimated into learning, social interaction, and school, in a fun, yet educational manner. Kindergarten has evolved in most areas into a full time program. This is partly the result of increasing pressures on education, and partly due to the increase in working mothers in America.”

U.S. NEWS
POLICE OFFICERS CAUGHT PLAYING COP BINGO
In Bozeman Montana, law enforcement officers were caught playing Police Bingo. Two teams of town patrol officers had bingo cards with multiple squares of police activity, such as:
– Over .30 Blood Alcohol Level on a DUI
– Two On-Team Vehicle Pursuit
– Vehicle Extraction
– Recover Stolen Vehicle
– Drug DUI
– Foot Pursuit
– Successful K9 Track
– Arrest 3+ People Out Of One Car
– Officer Hit On By Arrestee
– 3+ Vehicle Accident
– Butt Naked Suspect
– Successful CPR
– Everyone On Team Gets A Felony Arrest In A Week
The game went on for 12 days until the command staff was made aware. The game was shut down, and the department conducted its own investigation to determine (* Big surprise!) there were no wrongful arrests or officers acting outside their normal duties in order to fill out the card and win the game.
* Was the Free Square in the middle a Donut Stop?
* So, no NICE things cops can do on the Bingo cards? “Find missing child”? “Help senior motorist change flat tire”? “Rescue kitten from tree”?
* I’ve had nights where I would have made an officer win that bingo card.
* Guess they got tired of playing “I spy with my little eye…”
MAN SETS SEX TOYS, NEIGHBORHOOD ON FIRE
A Staten Island man allegedly caused a three-alarm blaze that ripped through his neighborhood when he set fire to some sex toys outside his home. Mr. Harry Torres, 37, started the blaze last Wednesday in West Brighton. The ensuing inferno burned his home, two neighboring houses and two cars. It’s not clear why he wanted to destroy the items, but he admitted doing it, telling police, “I was in the backyard at my house and I lit two sex toys on fire.” Mr. Torres now faces a slew of charges, including arson.
* What better way to discretely dispose of embarrassing personal items than setting the neighborhood on fire?
* Trying to sterilize them after a particularly gross encounter?
* I hope he pulled the batteries out first. You’re not supposed to burn those.
* Although, with the size of the fire, they might have run on gasoline engines.
* Exactly how do you make that claim to the insurance company?
OZEMPIC FEET
People who take Ozempic are noticing yet another side effect. It’s called ‘Ozempic-feet.’ The weight-loss drug often leaves users with saggy skin, and that includes the tops of users’ feet. Ozempic, along with other new weight loss drugs, causes a massive loss of fat content and water retention, which can affect areas like the tops of feet, which has a sensitive subcutaneous fat layer, leaving the skin on your feet saggy and veiny.
* But there is help! Doctors have discovered this new thing: it’s called “shoes.”
* There’s so much droopy, hanging extra skin out there, suspenders are making a comeback.
* I’m sorry, but you’re lucky if people notice your veiny feet instead of your droopy jowls and sunken eyes.
* Yeah, lookin’ at you, John Goodman.
SCIENTISTS INVENT A NEW COLOR
A team of scientists claim to have found a color no one has seen before. Although it’s not a color anyone can just see – you have to “experience” it. The researchers, at the University of California, Berkeley, conducted an experiment in which subjects had laser pulses fired into their eyes. (* Seems safe!) By stimulating individual cells in the retina, the laser pushed their color perception beyond its natural limits, and they were able to experience a color the human eye can’t normally see. The five people who have seen it says it’s a blue-green, sort-of saturated turquoise – although describing it that way does not fully capture the richness of the experience. They call the color olo. They say there’s no way to convey the color on a computer screen or a color sample. They stressed that it could only be experienced through laser manipulation of the retina.
* Well, now I want nail polish that color.
* This could open up a whole new concept in Fruit Loops.
* I was hoping for something more in the orangey-pinkish range, but whatever.
* It’s like they’re purposely trying as hard as they can to not win a Nobel Prize.
* The researchers say they will continue with their experiment, as soon as their sight recovers and they stop walking into the furniture.

UBER TAKES OFF WITH WOMAN’S SLEEPING TODDLER
A Canadian mom claims an Uber driver accidentally drove off with her daughter still in the vehicle — and the company refused to help. Toronto native Julia Viscomi was in an Uber with her five-year-old daughter Amelia, along with three other children and an adult. It was 11 p.m. and her daughter fell asleep in the back of the car. Due to the seating arrangement, the other passengers were blocking her daughter from the doors, and Viscomi had to wait for everyone else to get out so she could retrieve her. Viscomi says she shared her intentions loudly so the driver could hear her. But before she could reach back in and get her daughter, the driver took off. Horrified, she first tried contacting the Uber driver, but they couldn’t be reached. She then reached out to Uber but they refused to contact the driver. She ended up calling the cops, who managed to track down the vehicle an hour later. To make matters worse, Uber refused to make amends and simply offered her an automated $10 credit for her trouble.
* I bet this makes next year’s list of “Crazy Things People Left In An Uber.”
* Yet another good reason to put AirTags on your kids.
* Meanwhile the daughter was thinking “I almost got away from them!”
* This story is shocking! A five-year-old without a cell phone???
ROBOTS RUN AGAINST HUMANS IN RACE, LOSE
More than 20 two-legged robots competed in the world’s first humanoid vs. human half-marathon in China on Saturday. They lost. Teams from several tech companies and universities took part in the 21-kilometer (13-mile) race. The robots were pitted against 12,000 human contestants, running side by side in a fenced-off lane. The race course had some slight slopes and winding roads. Human runners were allowed water refreshment; robot contestants were allowed to get new batteries during the race. The first robot across the finish line finished the route in two hours and 40 minutes. The winner of the men’s race finished in 1 hour and 2 minutes.
* Great, now we’ve got a bunch of sore loser robots out for vengeance against humans.
* The robots issued a statement challenging humans to meet them in the arena for the next episode of BattleBots.
* The losing robots were all sent to Chinese robot re-education camps. For that matter, so were the losing human runners.
* Robots may take our jobs, but at least they won’t be taking over our marathons.

JELLY ROLL ONCE POOPED HIMSELF DURING PERFORMANCE
Rapper and singer Jelly Roll revealed that he once “pooped” himself while performing a concert. The surprising confession came on Friday’s episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” as Jelly Roll and his “American Idol” co-star, country legend Luke Bryan, discussed some of their most embarrassing moments. Jelly Roll noted that while he didn’t immediately realize what had happened, his fans in the audience certainly did. “I watched this crowd go from loving me to just being completely out.”
THE WHO REHIRES ZAK STARKEY
Our long national nightmare is over. The Who has rehired drummer Zak Starkey – the son of The Beatles’ Ringo Starr – just days after firing him. Pete Townshend wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday, “He’s not being asked to step down from The Who. There have been some communication issues, personal and private on all sides, that needed to be dealt with, and these have been aired happily.” The issue seems to have stemmed from singer Roger Daltrey not being able to hear the music. Townsend wrote, “Maybe we didn’t put enough time into sound checks, giving us problems on stage,” Townshend wrote. “The sound in the center of the stage is always the most difficult to work with. Roger did nothing wrong but fiddle with his in-ear monitors. Zak made a few mistakes and he has apologized.”
