TODAY IS …
(All days repeat annually on today’s date unless otherwise noted; days may or may not be called “National”/”International”/”World” depending on source; sources listed often have additional info. We generally do not list special days which were created by commercial companies for the purpose of marketing, or the hundreds of disease awareness listings which occur each year.)

PONY EXPRESS DAY
The Days Of The Year website says this:
“The Pony Express existed for 18 months between the days of April 3, 1860 to October 1861. In these days there was no air mail, no great American Highway, all there was was hundreds of miles of wide open spaces with not much in between but animal filled wilderness and bandito-filled hollows. During this time, if you wanted to send a letter or small package from anywhere East past the gateway of St. Joseph, Missouri, there was only one way to go. The Pony Express was a massive employer for it’s time, with up to 80 young riders employed at any given stage, with stringent requirements on their age, size, and weight.
The Pony Express preferred to employ the youngest riders they could, in part for their resilience, and in part for how light they were. The lighter a man was the longer the horse could run and the more cargo the rider could carry, and since the horses were put to go full tilt for 10 to 15 miles at a stretch before changing, this was of vital importance. The rider changed out every 75 to 100 miles, but the mail never so much as slowed even in the worst of weather. While the average trip from coast to coast (on horseback!) took 10 days, when they delivered Lincoln’s Inaugural Address, the trip was made in a mere 7 days and 17 hours.”
TWEED DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“Tweed Day celebrates one of two things. Either it celebrates the warm, fashionable woolen clothing that originated in Scotland: Seemingly always in fashion, Tweed keeps you warm and looks good, too. It should come as no surprise to learn that tweed is more popular in the north, and not often worn in the south. Or, it celebrates the birthday of a corrupt New York City politician, William Magear “Boss” Tweed, who was born on April 3, 1823. Boss Tweed was a U.S. Senator and a NY State Senator. His claim to fame was being convicted of graft and corruption for stealing millions of dollars from NYC. Our problem with this theory is why a special day for a convicted crook!? We ‘d like to believe that Tweed Day celebrates Tweed suits. Conversely, do we really want to celebrate the birth date of a crook? We’ll let you make the call. Wearing something tweed from your wardrobe is an absolute must today. But better still, buy a new tweed outfit and wear it today.”
WORLD PARTY DAY
From various sources:
World Party Day, also known as P Day, is based on the idea that peace is not the opposite of war, merely its absence. The real opposite of war is party(ing), and World Party Day aims to synchronize a massive, world-wide party to celebrate everything that’s good and optimistic. The inspiration for World Party Day comes from the novel “Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel”, by Vanna Bonta published in 1995, which concludes with a synchronized worldwide celebration that occurs on April 3, 2000. The first World Party Day was held in 1996, the year after the novel’s publication. “Pass the food and turn up the music” is a common slogan on World Party Day, but it doesn’t really matter how you celebrate, or even whether you celebrate alone or in company. The premise is that everyone in the world is joined in partying, so you can really do anything you like as long as it involves celebrating the joy of existence.

AUDIO: PEEPY THE PLUSH TOY
[Note: This is a weird story about a little pop culture cult toy that appears to be breaking through on social media. There doesn’t seem to be any point about Peepy except that Peepy just IS. It exists. And this excites the young people with too much time on their hands. Peepy could be an upcoming fad. It could just fizzle out. But at least you can say you knew about Peepy before most other people did. Google it, maybe you can find more info than we did.]
Have you ever heard of Peepy? It’s a weird little novelty plush toy that’s been around since 2020, but is starting to emerge on social media. It comes from a company called “ItemLabel,” which describes itself as a “revenge-based” company that sells clothing and plush items meant to be used as art objects.
– There are several versions of the Peepy, but the most obvious one is shaped like a large peanut with short pig-like legs, a duckbill mouth, large dead eyes, and a black-and-white cow pattern. The appeal of Peepy is not so much the actual doll, but the mythology the maker has created around it.
– Each toy comes with a backstory that tells you Peepy has committed a crime at some point. He has been in jail but is now released on bail. Peepy’s various crimes include breaking promises, stealing peanuts, robbery, jewelry heist, kelp theft, sports rigging, lunch money theft, lockpicking, poisoning, loitering and public nudity.
– Here is Peepy’s “canon,” as the nerds like to say:
– Known for loving Peanuts
– Strength is grass eating
– Wisdom is accounting
– Physical ability is missing time
– Weakness is being probed
– Birthday is June 29th (Unknown year)
– There are commercials for Peepy on YouTube with a weird little jingle with bizarre lyrics. Below is the song. Here are the lyrics:
“La la la lovely tiny pee Peepy / I wanna hug to the my boy / Let’s be together every day / With yum foods in cute kitchen / My dream is to eat the peanuts with you every day / Close your eyes / Your dream for the night is to swim in the peanut pool / My dream for the life is to eat peanuts with Peepy.”
* Good to see the brown acid is still out there after all these years.
* Based upon the syntax and non-sequiturs, I’m going with this is a Japanese thing. (Either that, or it’s a “joke” from the anti-comedy team of Tim & Eric.)
* Should we patronize a “revenge-based” company that is clearly psychotic?
* Well, better Peepy than Quiznos Spongmonkeys.

SCIENCE: COIN FLIPS TEND TO END UP THE WAY THEY STARTED
A team of researchers analyzed the results of 350,757 coin tosses to determine whether the results are truly 50/50, and found coins are slightly more likely to land the same way they started. František Bartoš, a researcher at the University of Amsterdam, led a team that analyzed the results of 350,757 coin flips from 48 people using 46 currencies. “We found overwhelming evidence for a ‘same-side’ bias: If you start heads-up, the coin is more likely to land heads-up and vice versa. If you bet a dollar on the outcome of a coin toss and repeat the bet 1,000 times, knowing the starting position of the coin toss would earn you 19 dollars on average,” the researchers wrote.
* The study itself cost about $83,000, but 19 bucks is nice.
* So it’s better to bet $1000 each time ’cause you’d make $19,000. Good to know.
* By the end of the experiment, they were flippin’ out, man.
* Unable to think of a scientific theory to explain this, they said it was “magic.”
* Now explain why a dropped piece of toast with peanut butter always lands peanut-butter-side down.
U.S. NEWS
NEW YORK PRISONERS SUE TO WATCH THE ECLIPSE
Six inmates in a New York prison are suing the state corrections department because they won’t be able to watch next Monday’s total solar eclipse, which passes over the state. The suit argues that the April 8 lockdown violates inmates’ constitutional rights to practice their faiths by preventing them from taking part in a religiously significant event. The plaintiffs are incarcerated at the Woodbourne Correctional Facility in Woodbourne, upstate New York. They include a Baptist, a Muslim, a Seventh-Day Adventist, two practitioners of Santeria, as well as an atheist. The state has announced that, during the eclipse, all incarcerated individuals will remain in their housing units from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., which are generally the normal hours for outdoor recreation in prisons. The total eclipse is expected to be seen in those parts of New York around 3:15 p.m., and last for a couple of minutes.
* Well maybe you should have thought of the eclipse happening on April 8, 2024 at 3:15 pm before you did your crime.
* What makes an eclipse a religious event? People whispering “Oh, my God”?
* If you’re religious and you’re praying during an eclipse, aren’t your eyes closed anyway?
* And it’s not like you’re supposed to actually look at it, right?
* Relax. Don’t rock the boat and you could be out for good behavior in time for the next eclipse in 2044.
MAN CAUGHT WITH FENTANYL HIDDEN IN EASTER EGGS
In Russellville, Alabama, a man was arrested Monday morning after authorities allegedly discovered 176 fentanyl pills stuck inside two plastic Easter eggs in his car. The Sheriff’s Office said Jamarious Dequan Qualls, 29, was arrested on charges of drug trafficking and drug possession with intent to distribute.
* So if you’re still waiting for the Easter Bunny to show, he’s been slowed down a bit.
* I’ve heard of a drug mule, but never a drug bunny.
* They busted him for holding some of that Easter grass, too.
* Jamarious did not find it hilarious.
* Just imagine what was in his Christmas fruitcake.
FLORIDA MAN REFUSED TO PAY FOR WAFFLE HOUSE TATTOO
A Florida Man was arrested for refusing to pay for a $250 Waffle House tattoo that was inked on his right calf. Max Krejckant, 33, had been drinking when he asked for the tattoo from the Ink Godz parlor in St Petersburg back in December. He got the Waffle House block-letter logo tattooed on his right leg. When it came time to pay the $250 bill, Mr. Krejckant admitted he only had six dollars. He was arrested for theft, and in court the judge ordered Krejckant to pay a total of $675 in fines, court costs, and fees.
* As further punishment, he has to keep the tattoo.
* The Waffle House tattoo is so realistic, fights keep breaking out on his shins.
* At least he didn’t go for International House of Pancakes. That would have been more than twice the fine.
* Sure, tattoo parlors should make everyone take a Breathalyzer test. But then they’d all go out of business.
* Coulda been worse. Coulda been a half-dollar-size stretched hole in his earlobe with a giant steel plug in it.
TRENDINGTHEY STILL HAVEN’T STARTED FILMING LAST EPISODES OF “YELLOWSTONE”
After a ridiculously long wait, “Yellowstone” is slated to return to TV this fall with the last episodes of its final season — but they haven’t even started filming yet. One of the show’s actors, country star Lainey WIlson, who plays Abby, says she’s still waiting to find out. “No clue,” she tells Fox News. “I did talk to Kelly Reilly [who plays Beth Dutton] the other day and, you know, we’ll see what happens. Once they give us the call — we’re there.”
