APRIL FOOL’S DAY
Note: Wikipedia’s got all you ever wanted to know about April Fool’s Day, and more.
THE INTERNATIONAL EDIBLE BOOK FESTIVAL
Wikipedia says this:
“The International Edible Book Festival is an annual event usually held on or around April 1, which is also known as Edible Book Day. The global event has been celebrated since 2000 in various parts of the world, where ‘edible books’ are created, displayed, and small events are held. The creations are photographed and submitted to the Books 2 Eat website and then consumed. Regular contributors to the site are groups from Australia, Brazil, India, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, The Netherlands, Russia, and Hong Kong. The event was initiated by Judith A. Hoffberg and Béatrice Coron in 2000. The website says that the International Edible Book Festival is held to commemorate ‘the birthday of French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), famous for his book Physiologie du goût, a witty meditation on food.'”
INTERNATIONAL TATTING DAY (NOT SLANG FOR TATTOO!)
The Altius Directory website says this:
“Celebrated on April 1 every year, this is a holiday for tat lovers. It has been celebrated for many years now. Tatting is an art form that involves making a durable lace using thick threads. People from the tatting community love the art and like to commemorate, promote and mobilize more action towards popularizing this art. Tatting is said to have developed from rope work done by fishermen to make fishnets. In the process, they developed new patterns to make motifs for their girlfriends. The art is essentially a needle work that uses knots and stitches. Tatting originated in the early 19th century and has been used to make laces and collars by many designers worldwide.”
SOURDOUGH BREAD DAY
The Days Of The Year website says this:
“Records of the consumption of sourdough bread date back as far as the Sumerians in 2800 BCE. Sourdough is similar to bread dough, except that the natural yeasts are left to ferment in the bread mix. Why not celebrate Sourdough Bread Day by mixing up your own batch of sourdough and baking a loaf?”

THE MOST INAPPROPRIATE TOPICS TO DISCUSS AT WORK
According to a survey of more than 1,000 American workers by personal finance website InsuranceQuotes, these are the Most Inappropriate Topics To Discuss At Work:
1. Sex (74% say it’s wrong)
* Unless you’re a hooker.
2. Drug use (69%)
* Unless you work at a marijuana dispensary.
3. Gossip about a coworker (57%)
4. Salary or income (42%)
* “Politics” has also not been a great topic for a pretty long time.
* Can I put in a vote for dreams? I do not want to hear about your dreams.
* Plus the InsuranceQuotes website does not like you talking about how much insurance companies suck.
* Gossip may be inappropriate, but, come on, after “paycheck” that’s the number two reason to come to work.
* PHONE TOPIC: Do you have a co-worker who just won’t shut up about something? What is it?
U.S. NEWS
REPORTERS ARE STEALING SOUVENIERS FROM AIR FORCE ONE
White House reporters are being scolded for taking souveniers from Air Force One. In an email sent to members of the White House Correspondents’ Association last month, the journalists were accused of pilfering a variety of items emblazoned with the logo of presidential plane, everything from pillowcases to plates and glasses. The email warned the reporters that removing such items was not allowed and reflected poorly on the press pool as a whole. The White House has long given out small boxes of M&Ms featuring the presidential seal to reporters on Air Force One, but the towels and cutlery needs to stay.
* The Fox news reporter always complains that half of his M&Ms are printed with W’s.
* They found there aren’t enough pillows left for President Biden’s frequent naps.
* It’s called gonzo journalism, because that stuff is gone-zo, baby,
9-YEAR-OLD TRIES TO DRIVE HIMSELF TO SCHOOL
In Oroville, California, a 9-year-old boy took his mother’s car and attempted to drive it to school. An officer first spotted a gray Volkswagen sedan stopped in the middle of an intersection on Wednesday morning. The officer instructed the driver to move the car, but the vehicle sped off and led police on a short, erratic chase that ended in a dirt parking lot just blocks away from Plumas Avenue Elementary School. After coming to a stop, the car reversed suddenly and smashed into the front of a police cruiser. The officer discovered that the driver was a 9-year-old boy, who said he just wanted to drive himself to school. His parents were called, and the officer delivered him to the school.
* Oh, that’s a horrible punishment!
* They made him stay after school to work on his parking.
* Give him a special lesson on how Uber and Lyft work.
* The kid’s grounded – oh, until we land on Mars or George R.R. Martin finishes “A Song of Ice and Fire,” whichever comes first.
* Finally, an American child who just can’t get to school fast enough.
TUPPERWARE IN TROUBLE
Tupperware, that midcentury marvel of mummifying your surplus scraps, has warned that the company may not survive for another year. The 77-year-old seller of plastic airtight food storage containers first raised substantial doubt about its ability to continue as going concern nearly a year ago. Sales have been declining in recent years, although there was a little recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic, but now sales are on a downward trend again.
* They tried to keep a lid on it, but, as usual, there weren’t any in the kitchen drawer that fit.
* Well, it’s not like anyone can afford food, much less enough to have leftovers.
* On the other hand, just look at Americans. There ARE no leftovers.
* Looks like their fate is sealed.
* Have they thought about going into the coffin business? Tupperware coffins – you close it, burp it, and bury it. Water tight!
INTERNATIONAL NEWS
SOUTH KOREA’S BABY TRAIN
South Korea has a population problem – their population is declining and they need to up their fertility rate and make more babies. When asked why they aren’t getting married and having kids, young Koreans are saying the long commutes to work and cramped, expensive housing puts a damper on the whole reproduction thing. The Korean government has come up with a solution – faster trains. The country is building a high-speed train service that will reduce the travel time between central Seoul and its outskirts. Project officials hope the faster commute times will encourage more youth to consider moving to homes outside the city, and give them more time to date and marry and boink and start having babies. The plan is to build six high-speed lines to the suburbs. The first section has just opened, cutting the commute time between Seoul and the suburb of Dongtan from 80 minutes by bus to 19 minutes by the new train.
* That’s an extra two hours a day. You could make a baby AND watch a couple episodes of Palm Royale.
* So after a worker takes the baby train then walks into their home, does their partner yell, “All aboard!”?
* Oops – the faster trains will make the suburbs more attractive, more people move there, and then the housing will be cramped and expensive again. Any other bright ideas?
* The declining population is leading to all sorts of problems – the labor shortage is making wages rise, you can get tickets to concerts, reservations to restaurants, amusement parks are less crowded … what a nightmare!
