SOUTH KOREAN COMPANY PAYS WORKERS $75,000 TO HAVE A BABY
Booyoung Group, a South Korean construction company, is paying workers 100 million Korean won ($75,000) to have a baby. The policy is designed to help reverse the country’s declining birth rate. Korean officials fear a workforce decline will lead to a lack of defense manpower necessary for national security. And, because of the financial burdens of having a child, they decided to take drastic measures. So far, the company has paid out $5.25 million to employees who collectively had 70 babies since 2021.
* And where are those babies going to live when they grow up? In apartments built by the Booyoung Group. It’s another one of those Circle of Life thingys.
* 70 babies. Just a few million more, and they’ll have that defensive manpower they’re looking for.
* $75,000 per baby? Thanks a lot. In the U.S., that wouldn’t even last ’til the kid’s four years old. (Source: smartasset(dot)(com)/financial-advisor/cost-raise-child-2023)
* The going rate for having a baby in America is usually a couple of million, depending on which celebrity is trying to buy your silence.
* You know, we could do that in America, except we don’t do that in America.
