WORKER ON PAID SICK LEAVE FOR 15 YEARS SUES BECAUSE HE DIDN’T GET A RAISE
A British man, on paid sick leave since 2008, sued his company because he hasn’t been given a pay raise in that time. Ian Clifford, from Guildford, England, and once a senior IT worker for IBM, went on paid sick leave 15 years ago. It was not disclosed what his sickness was (* sick of working!). Under an IBM health plan, he was still paid £54,000 (about $67,000) a year and is guaranteed that salary until he is 65. But Mr. Clifford recently sued the company, claiming his unchanging salary will ‘wither’ over time due to inflation. He also complained about not receiving a holiday bonus. An employment judge at a tribunal denied his claim, noting that what he was being paid for not working was quite generous.
* I believe the British word for his condition is “chutzpah.”
* Not sick enough to sue, I notice.
* Still no cure for chronic malingering.
* Another problem we won’t have when AI takes all the jobs.
* He ought to at least go back to the office to deal with the 18,000 messages in his inbox.
