GIANT CANE TOAD DISCOVERED
Park rangers in Australia two weeks ago discovered what they think is the biggest cane toad ever seen. Ranger Kylee Gray was clearing a trail at Conway National Park when she had to step out of her vehicle because of a snake blocking her path. That’s when Gray looked down and saw Toadzilla. The monster cane toad – bigger than a football, more like a rugby ball – weighed 5.95 pounds, six times more than the average cane toad’s weight. Cane toads come from South and Central America, but 100 of them were introduced to Australia in 1935 as an experiment to deal with beetles destroying Queensland’s sugarcane crops. The population then exploded to an estimated 200 million, giving Australia and the world a lesson in messing with Mother Nature. Because the species is officially designated a pest in Australia, Toadzilla was euthanized.
* They croaked it.
* Those legs could have fed a family of four.
* It was a clear case of a reptile dysfunction.
* This obesity problem is everywhere, huh?
* “Ranger Kylee Gray had to step out of her vehicle because of a snake blocking her path.” What was it, Backwards Day in Australia? If there’s a snake in the path, get the hell back in your jeep, honey.
* Then the toad’s big brother came looking for her.
