AUDIO: ZAMBIAN NEWS ANCHOR REPORTS THAT HE HASN’T BEEN PAID
A Zambian TV news anchor interrupted a live broadcast earlier last week to report that he and his colleagues haven’t been paid their wages by the news station. Kabinda Kalimina, an employee with KBN TV, started the show with a roundup of the top stories of the day, when he suddenly said, “Away from the news, ladies and gentleman, we are human beings. We have to get paid. Sharon and everyone else hasn’t been paid, including myself. We have to get paid.” Soon after Mr. Kalimina made his statement, the live feed cut to the opening montage of the news channel. The CEO of KBN TV, Kennedy Mambwe, called it “drunken behavior” and a “one-night stunt of fame,” although he did not explicitly deny the claim of non-payment of wages. Mr. Kalimina, in a Facebook post, remained defiant and unapologetic about his action. “Yes I did that on live TV. Just because most journalists are scared to speak out doesn’t mean journalists shouldn’t speak out.”
* He broke the unspoken rule of broadcasting. We all do this out of the goodness of our hearts, because we love serving the public so, so much.
* Then he said, “No film at eleven – no one paid the video crew, either.”
* Maybe set up a GoFundMe account?
* I see a big, big future in American media ownership for that guy who owns the Zambian station.
