LOST YOUR SENSE OF SMELL FROM COVID? RETRAIN YOUR BRAIN

Losing the sense of smell is a common symptom among COVID-19 patients. While most will recover fairly quickly, a significant portion of people report long-term issues. A new study finds the best way to help recover is by simply “training” yourself to smell again. Researchers from the University of East Anglia explain this involves sniffing at least four different odors twice per day for several months. The method is based on neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to reorganize itself to compensate for a change or injury. The researchers say it’s a cheap, simple and side-effect-free treatment option for various causes of smell loss.
* But will they let you into Bath and Body Works twice a day for several months?
* So you train part of your brain to switch from its regular job to smelling, and you lose the ability to tie your shoes.
* Get a job renting bowling shoes. You’ll be cured in half the time.
* Go ahead, volunteer to clean the cat box every day for the next four months. You’ll be a hero around the house.
* You can even try the old Dutch oven trick, though your spouse might leave you.
