QANTAS LAUNCHES “MYSTERY FLIGHTS”
Qantas, the Australia-based airline, is offering three domestic “mystery flights” for travelers looking for surprise experiences in Australia – you won’t know where the plane is going. Qantas had first introduced mystery flights back in the 1990s, but hasn’t operated any in the years since. Travelers who book a seat simply show up to the airport to be whisked away to an unknown destination. The three mystery flights will depart from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to a destination within a two-hour distance. Once passengers touch down, they’ll have a day to explore at their leisure before flying home. Tickets start at $577 (for economy seats), but each includes the cost of activities planned for the mystery excursions.
* If you fly in a Boeing 737-Max not only do you not know where you’re going to land, but how.
* For extra fun, there’s a contest to guess where your baggage ends up.
* A two hour check in at the airport, two hour flight, and hour to get out of the airport, an hour to get where you’re going, an hour to get back to the airport, two hours to check in and get through security, two hours flying home. That’s eleven hours out of your day before you even get to do the supposedly fun thing. Well worth the $600.
* The biggest mystery is who the heck would ever do this.
* I heard a rumor about the mystery destinations. The Sydney flight goes to Melbourne, the Brisbane flight goes to Sydney, and the Melbourne flight goes to Brisbane.
* As far as mysteries go, I’ve always wondered why there’s no “U” after the “Q” in Qantas.
