AIRLINE PASSENGERS HAD TO PAY FOR PLANE REPAIR
Passengers on board a flight from Beijing, China, to Poland were asked to chip in to pay for the repairs so that the plane could take off. There were around 250 passengers on the Polish Airlines flight on November 11th when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner suffered a hydraulic pump problem. The Chinese mechanic who had been hired to fix the pump demanded cash as payment, refusing to accept a bank transfer from the airline. The crew from the flight asked passengers to chip in cash, and managed to scrape together around $360 US (2500 Chinese Yuan) for repairs, which took around 10 hours. The borrowed money was immediately returned to the passengers once they landed in Warsaw. The airline also gave everyone flight vouchers.
* It’s the 21st Century version of the stagecoach robber.
* “Nice Dreamliner you got there, squire. Be a shame if anything were to ‘appen to it.”
* Cash up front, huh? So they’ve really got the whole capitalism thing down pat now.
* It’s a shame China doesn’t have enough people where they might have, say, two or even three backup mechanics to choose from.
* The airplane crew caught on pretty quick. After they took off, they told the passengers that before they would pressurize the cabin, they were going to pass a hat around.
