ALABAMA TOWN FINALLY GETS RID OF NYC POOP TRAIN
For several months, a couple hundred rail cars full of human waste from the good citizens of New York City have been sitting idle on the tracks in the small town of Parrish, Alabama. But at last, as of Tuesday afternoon, the cars have been removed. Parrish Mayor Heather Hall said it had been a difficult time for the town. She says, “We’re a very small town. We’re very outdoorsy kinds of people. We like to barbecue, we do sports … we have a semi-pro football team and all those sports activities are located next to the rail yard.” The death-smelling stench made it difficult for those who wanted to go to those events. There were some days the smell was so awful that parents kept their kids inside. The sewage was on its way to a landfill in Adamsville, Alabama, but first it was supposed to be transferred from trains to trucks in the neighboring town of West Jefferson. But officials in West Jefferson passed new zoning laws to keep the sludge out of their town, and as a result the load was halted in late January in Parrish. The load (load!) has now made its way to the Big Sky Landfill; some also went into an old mine in the state’s Walker County.
* Ah, the romance of the rails!
* Never mind the Crimson Tide, this was the Brown Tsunami!
* Parrish, Alabama, poop-ulation 9– er, POPulation 982.
* The folks in Parrish ought to go over to West Jefferson and put a flaming bag of poop on everyone’s doorstep.
* What happened to the actual rail cars? No one is privvy to that information.
* I’m guessing the rail cars are now back in service on the New York City subway line.
