WHAT IS A BOMB CYCLONE?
Now that we’re having a “bomb cyclone,” you might want to know what it means. A “bomb cyclone” refers to a meteorological phenomenon known as bombogenesis, in which a storm’s minimum central pressure drops by at least 24 millibars in 24 hours. See? It’s as simple as that. Or, for you laypeople, it means that the storm intensifies quicker than usual. Such storms are common in the fall and winter along the East Coast. What’s unusual about this particular storm is that it’s likely to greatly exceed the typical intensification rate to qualify as a weather bomb, perhaps even doubling that rate.
* Every year, the weather people invent new weather – haboob, virga, grauple, El Chapo.
* I though Bomb Cyclone was the new summer movie on Syfy – you know, like Sharknado, only a tornado full of lit fireworks.
* And if it isn’t, dibs on the idea.
* One time I had a bomb cyclone in my belly after a Taco Bell XXL Grilled Stuft Burrito.
* Which also caused some bombogenesis in my waistline.
