FEDERAL JUDGE OKAYS BIKINI BARISTAS
A federal judge granted Everett, Washington’s bikini baristas a preliminary injunction, temporarily preventing the city from enforcing its ban on bikini barista stands. Back in August, Everett’s city council unanimously passed two ordinances that required baristas to cover “minimum body areas”. As a result of the ordinances, seven bikini baristas sued the city, arguing that the ban denied employees the ability to communicate through their attire and unlawfully targets women. A U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman on Tuesday issued an order that found the baristas were likely to succeed on the merits of their case, and also that the ban likely violates the First Amendment. Barista Emilia Powell called the decision today a “big step for women.”
* But not so big that they topple over in those spiked heels.
* So, a new business opportunity for Matt Lauer maybe.
* How are guys supposed to know which team a woman is on – the team that doesn’t want us to see them as sex objects, or the team that does? Could they, like, wear a special color hat?
* Instead of venti, grande and trenta, your coffee is delivered in a B-cup, C-cup or D-cup.
* Not to nitpick, but shouldn’t they be called “baristettes”?
