ZOO NEWS

1. A young man jumped into the white rhinoceros enclosure at the Singapore Zoo last Thursday, did a backflip, and ran out. The original video was uploaded onto the youth’s TikTok account, showing the stunt. Four rhinos can be seen inside the enclosure. The Singapore Zoo urged people not to perform such stunts, as lives could be put in danger.
* But if you’d include a brief commercial for the zoo, they’d be willing to reconsider.
* I would posit that it’s currently safer doing a backflip in a rhino cage than out here in the world with the COVID.

2. At the Toronto Zoo, they were running the movie “Elf” for the hyena. A video shows the hyena sitting in front of a TV with “Elf” on the screen, reacting to the opening credits with the stop-motion animated puffin bird. The zoo explained the movie provided sensory enrichment for the hyenas.
* “We were going to build the hyenas a more African-like habitat here in Totonto, but, y’know, just running Elf is so much cheaper.”
* Just don’t let them see the hyenas in “The Lion King.”

3. The gorillas at the London Zoo seem to enjoy Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas.” Mother gorillas Mjukuu and Effie and youngsters Gernot and Alika usually relax listening to classical music while the keepers clean their indoor cages. But at one point, Mariah Carey’s song came on and the two baby gorillas came up to the radio to listen better – “they definitely wanted to hear more of Mariah,” said the keeper.
* I’m sorry, that should read, “Said no one ever.”
* You know they just wanted to change the station to the new Taylor Swift song.
