WOULD YOU MOOCH UNEATEN FOOD FROM AN ABANDONED TABLE?

This story was on Deadspin: Alex, a San Francisco native who works in finance and is in his 40s, practices free-range mooching at restaurants. Alex always buys a meal for himself, but if he sees a table where the diners have already left, and there’s leftover food, he’ll grab something. Sometimes he’s trying new menu items. But mostly, he claims, he eats othersโ€™ leftover food to help the planet by helping restaurants cut back on their food waste * Whatever you say, Alex!). Alex says, โ€œSociety says not to do it but thereโ€™s not an inherently logical reason why somebody should be upset. Iโ€™m not picking food out of the garbage. Iโ€™m not dumpster diving. Iโ€™m not hanging out by the restaurant side door waiting for them to throw out bags of food. So I donโ€™t know why itโ€™s such a big deal. I think most people just donโ€™t do it because itโ€™s frowned upon in polite society.โ€
* I bet he’s popular with the ladies, too.
* How many unpleasant mouth infections does he get a year?
* If people really do this, it could explain the spread of measles.
* This is why I always lick all of my food, whether I eat it or not.
* “Hey, look – somebody left money on this table!”
* Does he also crash weddings and fill his coat pockets with buffet food?
* PHONE TOPIC: Have you ever mooched food at a restaurant? We bet more people do this than you think.
