WOMAN TO GIVE BIRTH AMONG DOLPHINS
A pregnant woman is planning on having “dolphin-assisted” water birth in the ocean of Hawaii. Spiritual healer Dorina Rosin and her partner Maika Suneagle are appearing in the BBC documentary Extraordinary Births, filming Dorina’s journey of giving birth in the sea with a dolphin as a midwife. The couple run a healing retreat on Hawaii’s big island, and view nature as a healing power. The pair says they believe their baby will be able to speak “dolphin.” Prior to the birth, Rosin took part in what she calls a “38-week blessing” in which she swam, pregnant, in the water alongside dolphins. They say the choice of birth environment is a more relaxing and natural way. Yet child experts warn that dolphins in the wild are unpredictable and dangerous and should not be trusted around a pregnant woman or newborns.
* In other words, don’t try this at home.
* This story smells fishy.
* Does anybody out there want to call Child Protective Services, or am I gonna have to do it?
* They view nature as a healing power, except for the savage bloodthirsty part where the whole system is based on animals eating each other alive.
* Sorry. They lost me when they said the baby would be able to speak “dolphin.”
* Not that that wouldn’t be pretty cool.
* Dolphins – the sweet, enchanting New Age animals you can train to attach explosives to ships.
* I can just see this beautiful scene unfolding … and then the shark shows up.
* Great, your one chance to be born and Mom is doing a New Age experiment with it.
* The hard part is keeping the incense lit under water.
* Afterwards, Dorina and Maika will retreat for a brief period of meditation and psychological testing.
* Rosin took part in a 38-week blessing? Look, I’ve been to some long church services in my time but that’s ridiculous.
