WOMAN PUTS RUBY RING INSIDE BALLOON, WHICH THEN DRIFTS OFF

Last Saturday in Edenbridge, Kent, England, Vikki Rutter placed a £120 ($158) ruby ring inside a giant balloon and then filled the balloon with helium. The ring was a 21st birthday gift for her cousin. But as she turned her back to look for a weight to tie down the balloon, it drifted into her utility room, through an open door and outside her home. “I just turned my back for 30 seconds and when I came back it had vanished,” said Mrs. Rutter, 47. She last saw it sailing out over her garden. A wide-scale search with family and friends ensued as they scoured the countryside for several miles. The balloon was thought to have been seen just over three miles away a few hours later on Saturday evening but a search of nearby fields proved fruitless. Mrs. Rutter is going to purchase another ring, but would still like the first one back if anyone finds it.
* Oh, the inanity.
* If you find it, give her a ring.
* That balloon knew exactly how to get out of the house. Obviously the whole thing was planned.
* If a search of the fields proved fruitless, they should have tried the apple orchard.
* That ring is gone. She’s just going to have to facet.
* A diamond is forever. A ruby, maybe an afternoon if you’re lucky.
