WOMAN MARRIES TREE TO SAVE IT

A Fort Myers, Florida, woman married a tree over the weekend. Karen Cooper married a 100-year-old old ficus tree in an attempt to save it. Although the tree sits on city property, in Snell Family Park, some of its branches and roots system extend to a neighboring lot, for sale for $1 million. A potential buyer of that lot asked the city what his legal responsibilities to the tree would be. And because he asked, Fort Myers now wants to cut the tree down. Cooper has been mobilizing an effort to save the tree by drawing attention to it, which is why she married it Saturday in a ceremony complete with flowers, music and a tree-decorated wedding cake. A dog served as ring-bearer.
* It was all they could do to keep the ring-bearer from peeing on the groom.
* Let’s hope her plan works, knock wood.
* The tree got married? The poor sap.
