WOMAN HIT BY DRIVERLESS CORVETTE

The robots have started trying to kill us. A woman in midtown Manhattan was struck by a yellow Corvette when the car’s automatic starter “malfunctioned” and shot out the front of a parking garage. The “accident” happened as the yellow sports car had just been driven up to the lip of the garage’s driveway before the owner hit the automatic start button on his key ring to start the engine. But instead of just turning over the engine, the Corvette lunged forward, shot across traffic and hit a woman on the other side of the street. People rushed to help move the car off the injured woman, who was pinned under the Corvette, and managed to roll it off of her. The driver, who refused to give his name, later blamed the parking garage attendants for the mishap. “Maybe [the parking attendants] didn’t put the emergency brakes on,” he speculated. “[The attendants] had it on auto control.” An attendant who identified himself as Roberto said he retrieved the car and engaged the parking brake while waiting for the owner to come. Roberto said the driver “squeezed the button – click, click – and the car started rolling.” Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before transporting her to a local hospital. Information on her condition was not immediately available.
* Don’t you love how he immediately blames the valet?
* Cars don’t injure people. People who remote-start cars injure people.
* You were so busy asking if we COULD remote start a car you never asked if we SHOULD remote start a car.
* Maybe it was one of the Autobots gone bad?
* A yellow sports car? Does Bumblebee have an alibi?
* It’s scary but then again, it’s just another day in Manhattan.
* If you drive a yellow Corvette you’re already screaming for attention. You don’t need to make anyone else scream.
* Sounds like the car was equipped with auto out-of control.
* I’d still rather be on the streets of New York than take my chances in the subways.
