WOMAN HELD HOSTAGE TEXTS FOR HELP WITH PIZZA ORDER
Police in Florida rescued a terrified mother-of-three allegedly being held hostage at knife point Monday by her drugged-up boyfriend after she included a desperate plea for help in an online Pizza Hut order. Terrified Cheryl Treadway, 26, was being held against her will after boyfriend Ethan Nickerson, 25, refused to let her leave the house or use a phone. As they argued he began sharpening a knife leading her to become concerned for her safety. Eventually he allowed her to order some food, and using Pizza Hut’s online app she ordered a pepperoni pizza adding “Please help. Get 911 to me. 911 hostage help!” Store workers recognized Cheryl’s name as a regular and immediately called in police. When they arrived at the house Cheryl fled the home with a baby in her arms, telling cops her boyfriend was armed with a knife. Nickerson was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon without intent to kill, battery, false imprisonment and obstructing justice by depriving communication to law enforcement. Police have since said the boyfriend may have been high on crystal meth at the time. According to court records he has been arrested multiple time since 2007, charged with battery, battery on law enforcement, damage to property, public intoxication, vehicle theft, DUI and forgery.
* Why was he let go? Good behavior?
* Good idea – Tricking a guy with pizza. It’s like men’s kryptonite.
* I mean, this would never have worked if she’d suggested, say, a nice garden salad.
* He lost his freedom in 30 minutes or less.
* I’d do something even slicker. I’d order something healthy so they’d know something was up.
* “Wait, I recognize this customer, but what’s this tofu topping? Call the cops. Something is very wrong here.”
* Pizza Hut wins big by having this story about their app, but it kind of loses too when you think about the kind of guy you could meet there.
* Let’s put it this way: I doubt they’ll make it into their next marketing slogan.
* “Are your hostages hungry but you’re too high on meth to care? Try our Pizza.”
