WOMAN COMPLAINS WHEN AIRLINE CALLS HER “MISS” INSTEAD OF “DOCTOR”
A woman is slamming (* SLAMMING!) Qantas Airlines because the attendant called her “Miss” instead of “Doctor”. Dr. Siobhan O’Dwyer was boarding a Qantas plane when a flight attendant reportedly looked at her boarding pass – which said “Dr. O’Dwyer” – and instead addressed her as “Miss O’Dwyer.” O’Dwyer is a senior lecturer in Aging and Family Care at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom with a PhD. O’Dwyer tweeted: “Do not look at my ticket, look at me, look back at my ticket, decide it’s a typo, and call me Miss O’Dwyer. I did not spend 8 years at university to be called Miss.” Dr. O’Dwyer says this is not about her ego, she was trying to highlight “everyday sexism.” She writes, “It’s not about the title, it’s about the fact that this wouldn’t have happened if I was a man.”
* No, it’s the ego.
* So she’s a doctor. You know – like the pepper.
* If there had been someone having a midlife crisis during the flight, I’m certain the attendant would have announced, “Is there a doctor of Aging and Family Care on board?” and then she would have jumped right in and saved the day.
* This is nothing. Wait and see what happens when someone calls the new Captain Marvel “Ms. Marvel”. K-POW, BABY!
* PHONE TOPIC: Is this doctor woman right to feel slighted, or is she making a big thing out of nothing?
