WHAT DO AMERICANS FIND MORALLY ACCEPTABLE?
Gallup has been polling Americans since the early 2000s about things that one may find morally acceptable or reprehensible.
– The things that most Americans (more than 70%) find acceptable: birth control, drinking alcohol and divorce.
– The things most (more than 70%) Americans find immoral: extramarital affairs, suicide, polygamy and human cloning.
– The things Americans are split on, but gaining in acceptance (around 65%): smoking marijuana, having a baby outside marriage, embryonic stem cell research, same-sex relationships.
– The things Americans are evenly split on: wearing clothes made of animal fur, doctor-assisted suicide, medical testing on animals and abortion.
* Why don’t they ask about the important things, like fake support animals, or what we thought of the end of “Game of Thrones”?
* Is the jury still out on Crocs?
* Americans are still split on same-sex relationships, except for those people who watch any new TV show.
* What about greeting cards with monkeys on them? Are they morally wrong? ‘Cause I think they’re a hoot.
