TODAY IS …
(All days repeat annually on today’s date unless otherwise noted; days may or may not be called “National”/”International”/”World” depending on source; sources listed often have additional info. We generally do not list special days which were created by commercial companies for the purpose of marketing, or the hundreds of disease awareness listings which occur each year.)

INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“International Peace Day seeks a global cessation of violence and war. Each year on this day, celebrations are held in hundreds of countries, all with the same goal in mind – to stop war and violence. Created and sponsored by the United Nations, this day seeks to end war, starting today. The United Nations’ goal for this day is ‘a day of non-violence and cease-fire.'”

MINIATURE GOLF DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“Miniature Golf Day is today, so hit your local miniature golf course for some fun. Miniature golf is popular with adults and children. It’s a great date for couples, young and old. It’s a great place to hold a birthday party for kids. You don’t have to be good at miniature golf. With twists, turns, and a variety of obstacles, your score is partially the result of luck. And that’s half of the fun of it. Take someone with you today to play a round or two of miniature golf. We certainly hope that your day is up to par!”

NATIONAL PECAN COOKIE DAY

WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY

WORLD GRATITUDE DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“World Gratitude Day is your opportunity to show your gratitude and appreciation. The United Nations Meditation Group created World Gratitude Day to express appreciation for the great things that individuals and groups do. This recognition is on a global basis. According to their website: ‘World Gratitude Day presents an award to someone who we feel has done something outstanding in the spirit of Globalism.’ This group also suggests that you find something to be grateful for, and remember the feeling.”

ENTERTAINMENT & CELEBRITIES

BRAD PITT A SCULPTOR NOW

Brad Pitt has made his debut as a sculptor. His works are on display at a show at the Sara Hildén Art Museum in Tampere, Finland. (* Don’t all rush there at once.) Among the nine works by Pitt on show are —- WAIT — Before I describe his art, you should know that Pitt reportedly began making ceramic art following his turbulent divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2017. OK, here are some of his sculptures:
– A house-shaped structure molded in clear silicon and shot with bullets,
– An 18-inch miniature house made out of tree bark, crudely held together with tape.
– A coffin-sized bronze box depicting hands, feet and faces attempting to break through the structure at various angles
– A plaster wall-hanging which depicts a gun fight between eight figures. (Pitt & Jolie had six kids together. Including themselves, it was a family of eight.)
* I’m not much for psychoanalysis, but jeeze – this is a scream for help.
* Imagine the ones that were too violent to put in the show.
* Well, it was either this, or go out back and break things with a hammer.
* I’ve been doing Playdoh since I was four, and this guy gets a museum showing after 5 years. What up with dat?
* “OK. I did the sculpting. Now I wanna be a…uhhh… a fireman!”

HAPPY STATES: HAWAII, MARYLAND, MINNESOTA, UTAH, NEW JERSEY

WalletHub compared the 50 United States measuring 30 key indicators of happiness, such as the depression rate, physical well-being, income growth and the unemployment rate. The Happiest States:
1. Hawaii
2. Maryland
3. Minnesota
4. Utah
5. New Jersey
The Saddest States: Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisiana, and West Virginia.
* At least Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas and Louisiana are happy they aren’t West Virginia.
* If you live in Hawaii but you’re not happy – sorry, it’s you.
* Of course Maryland is happy. It’s right there in the name: Merry Land.
* New Jersey doesn’t usually make this list, but they legalized non-medical marijuana in April, so…
* Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes. Everybody’s happy because every citizen gets their own lake.

LOTS OF ANTS IN THE WORLD

According to a new study from Australia, Germany and Hong Kong, there are estimated to be 20 quadrillion ants in the world. That’s 2 with 16 zeroes after it. That’s 2.5 million times more ants on this planet than people.
* So DON’T PISS THEM OFF.
* The gnats would like a recount.
* I think we found the REAL source of our carbon dioxide problem.
* 20 quadrillion. How do they remember all those names?
* This is all just to say that we could use a lot more anteaters in the world. A LOT more.

U.S. NEWS

AUDIO: THE SPACE FORCE SONG!

As you may remember, the United States has a Space Force now, thanks to you-know-who, although nobody’s sure what to call the people who work for it, and it doesn’t really have a base anywhere yet. And they don’t even have a football team. But what they DO have, now, is a theme song. So things are moving right along. Here is the Space Force Theme Song:
“We’re the mighty watchful eye,
Guardians beyond the blue,
The invisible front line,
Warfighters brave and true.
Boldly reaching into space,
There’s no limit to our sky.
Standing guard both night and day,
We’re the Space Force from on high.”
* Geeze, they must have had a contest at a high school or something to come up with this.
* It steals from all the right places – “Superman,” “Star Wars,” The University of Wisconsin fight song “On Wisconsin” – and yet it doesn’t know what to do with them.
* I’m telling you, those lyrics took AT LEAST a half hour to think up.
* Do us all a favor and only sing it in a vacuum.
* Watchful eye, guardians, front line, warfighters, standing guard… Do they know something about an upcoming alien invasion they’re not telling us?
* Are they singing, “We’re the Space Force from on high” or “We’re the Space Force, we’re so high”?

A MORE DIVERSIFIED GOLDEN GLOBES TO RETURN NEXT YEAR

Good news, nobody! The Golden Globes will return to television in 2023 after being sidelined this year due to allegations of racism. NBC refused to air the show on their network following a 2021 report in the Los Angeles Times that found there were no Black members in the 87-person group of international journalists who make up the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group that decides the nominees and winners. Now, the Foreign Press Association has has been making “transformational changes” to boost minority membership. Earlier this month, they announced the addition of 103 new international voters from 62 different countries to diversify its voting pool.
