WE SPEND $100,000 ON XMAS OVER THE COURSE OF A LIFETIME

According to a survey, Americans spend nearly $100,000 in their lifetime on Christmas. According to the poll of 2,000 people sponsored by Lowe’s Home store (* along with Let’s Make Some Numbers Up, Inc.), we annually spend:
– $235 on holiday home decor
– $375 on holiday gifts
– $317 on “kitchen and dining” essentials
– $301 on food and drink
– $328 on cleaning and storage
That adds up to $1,556 in a single festive season preparing for the holidays and getting our homes in shape for the arrival of guests. Over an average adult lifetime, that equates to $93,360 spent in the name of celebrating over the holidays.
* What is the psychology of a survey like this? Are we supposed to see that we are spending too much money, or are we supposed to say, “Well, if they’re spending on Christmas crap, I’d better spend, too.”
* Another good reason to switch to Judaism.
* Only $375 for Christmas presents? Sure, maybe if you give everybody a ballpoint pen.
* $317 on “kitchen and dining” essentials. Boy, that’s a lot of booze.
