AUDIO: TOWN PLANTS TREES IN MIDDLE OF ROADS TO SLOW DRIVERS
After residents of Innaloo, Australia, complained about dangerous drivers in their residential neighborhoods, the city council came up with a way to slow down traffic. They’ve planted trees in the middle of the streets. The council has installed about 40 sapling trees, which they call “traffic calming devices”, throughout the suburb. The city’s mayor, Mark Irwin, said the initiative has been mostly well-received, with the reaction of residents ‘positive’.
* It was either trees in the road or a serpentine of marked land mines.
* Now instead of speeding, drivers are playing “Get the squirrel!”
* They should slow down traffic like we do in America: potholes.
* Innaloo? That’s where Australians go to pee.
