TIMES SQUARE COWBOY WOODY CHARGED WITH SERIAL BUTT GROPING

José Vasquez, who wears a counterfeit Cowboy Woody costume in Times Square, has been charged with forcible touching and sex abuse for allegedly squeezing the tushes of three tourists. Police ​officer Shreegan Meade testified in court Monday that he had observed a woman jump up and scream, “He just grabbed my butt! I can’t believe he did that! I’m really upset!” Vasquez, 45, is on trial on three counts of attempted forcible touching and three counts of sex abuse for the alleged groping of the three Australian tourists, who had stopped to pose for pictures with him on Jan. 9, 2014. After Officer Meade took a complaint from the agitated tourist, he decided to stand behind the trio of cartoon characters to ensure there was no more hanky panky. The officer watched as Vasquez continued to run afoul of the law, “rubbing his open palm on the buttocks area” of two more female tourists who posed with him separately. That’s when the officer arrested him. Prosecutor Jesse Matthews argued that Vasquez, like many outlandish Times Square characters who pose for pictures in exchange for tips, are harassing tourists. “People from all around the world come to Times Square everyday,” he said. “They do not come to be groped, rubbed or grabbed in the buttocks by a man wearing a costume.”
