THERE’S A MAN SHORTAGE
Author Jon Birger has done the research, and he says there’s a man shortage. In his book, “Date-onomics: How Dating Became a Lopsided Numbers Game,” Birger, a former writer for Fortune and Money magazines, crunched demographic, census and other data to show that it really is historically rough out there for the ladies. The average gender ratio among US undergrads is now 57 percent women to 43 percent men, meaning there are now four women for every three men nationally in the marriage-age, college-educated dating market, Birger says.
– Cities especially brutal for single women are Houston; Providence, RI; and Raleigh, NC.
– Better options include Silicon Valley, San Francisco, San Diego and Columbus, Ohio. The Bay Area, for example, attracts programmers, computer scientists and engineers – fields that are disproportionately male.
– When faced with an oversupply of women, guys are more likely to delay marriage and play the field.
* Yeah, there are lots of single guys in San Francisco.
* Gee, it seems like only yesterday the radio was playing “It’s Raining Men.”
* Sadly, those men are in their 50s now.
* Maybe the man shortage is the Caitlyn Jenner effect.
* Well we can’t blame this one on Chaz Bono.
* That’s so mean. They’re saying if you’re a guy who can’t score you must be a real loser.
* What? The numbers don’t lie.
* 4 women for 3 men. I think I rented that video one time.
