THE TOWN OF VULCAN, CANADA TO BUY NEW STAR TREK JACKETS FOR THE CITY COUNCIL

The town of Vulcan, Alberta, Canada, has long played up the Star Trek connection to its name. It calls itself the Star Trek Capital of Canada. That includes having the Vulcan town council dress up in Star Trek costumes. The mayor and six town councilors often sport ceremonial United Federation of Planets jackets. But the jackets, which have passed down from council to council for years, are starting to wear out, so the city council just approved $4300 to replace them. The cost for each jacket would be about $620. Councilman Lyle Magnuson said he thought the cost was “a lot of money” when he first looked at the estimate, but he did like that a local resident is making the jackets.
* “Dammit, Jim, I’m a doctor not a tailor!”
* Which outfit? “Star Trek”? “Star Trek: The Next Generation”? “Star Trek: Deep Space 9”? “Star Trek: Voyager”? “Star Trek: Enterprise”? “Star Trek: Discovery”? The old movies? The new movies?
* The Vulcan town slogan is: “To boldly go where no nerd has gone before.”
* Outfits. Big deal. If they don’t all get pointy ears, they’re not really trying.
* No one in Vulcan ever wears a red shirt, if they want to be alive at the end of the day.
* Every seven years there’s a big fight among all the men for the women of Vulcan.
* This town is warped.
