THE SMART TOOTHBRUSH
Do you brush your teeth? Well, you’re doing it wrong. Oral-B just introduced a new “smart” toothbrush named the Genius, which works in tandem with a special app for your phone to record metrics such as interdental cleaning, pressure applied, brushing duration, and tongue cleanliness. To use the Genius, brushers must attach their smartphone to the mirror using a special suction cup, then position themselves in front of the camera. The app then displays zones of the mouth represented by blue segments, which the user must brush away. Oral-B developed the system in response to the fact that 80 percent of people don’t dedicate the same amount of time to each tooth when they brush. The Oral-B Genius will be available in Europe in July and the U.S. this fall, for an expected retail price of around $250.
* Oh, please don’t make me wait until fall! Please???
* Of course it has a special app. Everything these days has a special app.
* Generally, it’s a good idea, but it’s not nearly complicated enough. And it costs too little.
* First thing in the morning, I can barely make sure I pour the coffee into the coffee cup.
* Will the app explain to your boss why you’re half-an-hour late for work?
* Do not use this product if you’re British. Your phone could explode.
* No thanks. The phone’s already smarter than me. I want to hold onto my edge over the toothbrush.
* Next up: a very intelligent comb.
* It’ll have a special app that tells you when to get a haircut.
* Okay, how long ’til that special suction cup gives out and your phone falls into the sink and breaks?
