THE BEST RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD 2019

The 2019 World’s Best Restaurant has been named. The Wolfgat, located in South Africa, won the top prize at Monday’s World Restaurant Awards. The Wolfgat is located on a beachfront in the town of Paternoster. To get there, you have to fly into Capetown and rent a car for a two-and-a-half hour drive along the coast. It can only accommodate a maximum of 20 people per sitting. Chef-owner Kobus van der Merwe showcases “a selection of indigenous ingredients specific to our coastal location,” with a focus on seafood, lamb and venison and seasonal greens, seaweeds from the local rock pools and pickings from the garden. The set price for a meal is about $60, and wine pairings can be added for an extra $40. The restaurant serves lunch Wednesday thru Sunday, and dinner at 7pm only on Fridays and Saturdays.
