THE ANNUAL BELOIT COLLEGE “MINDSET” LIST
Beloit College in Wisconsin has released their annual Mindset List for the Class of 2021. The list aims to show how times have changed since before these students were born.
(Note: we’ve edited the massive list down to the more interesting items. Frankly, this is one of the worst-written lists we’ve ever seen. Poorly worded, overly cutesy, too many “may haves” and “probably nevers”. The original full list is here: https://www.beloit.edu/mindset/2021/)
– They are the last class to be born in the 1900s, the last of the Millennials. Next year comes Generation Z.
– They are the first generation for whom a “phone” has been primarily a video game, direction finder, electronic telegraph, and research library.
– Peanuts comic strips have always been repeats.
– There has always been XM radio programming for a fee.
– There have always been emojis to cheer us up.
– The Panama Canal has always belonged to Panama.
– They grew up with Dora the Explorer and her pet monkey Boots.
– They never lived with the Concorde and commercial supersonic air travel.
– It is doubtful that they have ever used or heard the high-pitched whine of a dial-up modem.
– Whatever the subject, there’s always been a blog for it.
– A movie scene longer than two minutes has always seemed like an eternity.
– Ketchup has always come in green.
– Justin Timberlake has always been a solo act.
– Bill Clinton has always just been Hillary Clinton’s aging husband.
– Paleontologists have always imagined dinosaurs with colorful plumage.
* There has always been a Simpsons. There always will be a Simpsons. Same with Kardashians, probably.
* There has never not been a Spider-man reboot in the works.
* Betty White has always been old. Wait – that’s true for everybody.
* Everybody has always been carrying at least 20 extra pounds.
* Ketchup has always come in green? Hey – I’ve got a bottle of green ketchup in my fridge from the year 2000.
