TEACHER GIVES STUDENTS PRIVILEGE SURVEY
Kids at Monroe Middle School in Tampa, Florida, got a lesson on privilege on Monday. The name of the survey given to seventh and eighth grade students – in a Spanish class, no less – was “How much privilege do you have?” The 12-, 13- and 14-year-old youngsters were asked to respond to the questions:
– Skin Color: White, Brown, Black / Dark
– Religion: Christian, Jewish, Athiest, Hindu/Buddist, Muslim/Sikh
– Sex: Male, Female, Intersex
– Gender: Cisgendered, Transgendered, Genderqueer
– Sexual Orientation: Straight, Homosexual, Bisexual, Asexual, Pansexual
– Disability: Abled, Mentally Disabled, Physically Disabled
A number of parents were angry that their kids were asked such probing questions – in a Spanish class, no less. It was not clear why the Spanish teacher wanted to know how much privilege her students had. The teacher has been removed from the classroom pending the outcome of a district investigation.
* What kids have to go through these days just to be able to order at Taco Bell.
* El professor no mas.
* If this is a privilege survey, where are the questions about how much money the parents make?
* And, yeah, we had to look up what ‘Cisgendered” means. Cisgender is a term for someone who has a gender identity that aligns with what they were assigned at birth. Apparently, you’re not supposed to have that any more.
* How ’bout we give the teacher the privilege of being shown the door?
* Finally, some questions in school I can answer.
* Pansexual is when your sexuality goes up and down from one side to the other.
* Either that or you want to have sex with a pan.
* Okay, maybe I couldn’t answer these after all.
