SCHOOL PULLS THE OLD "FOUR OF YOUR CLASSMATES DIED" TRICK
Last Wednesday during morning announcements, students at Brodhead, Wisconsin, High School received a startling announcement: Four of their classmates had been killed in a car crash involving texting and driving. The person delivering the message went into some detail about the accident. Students started crying. Kids texted their parents. And then, ten minutes later, students were told: JUST KIDDING. Bonehead – er, Brodhead School District Superintendent Leonard Lueck said that the drill was intended to bring awareness to teen driving safety but acknowledged “problems with this activity due to communication issues that occurred.” He added “We will evaluate the value of this activity and either make changes to how it is communicated or not do the activity again.” He also apologized to parents and students “for any undue stress this activity may have caused.”
* Any “undue” stress? Actually, all of the stress was undue.
* “Problems due to communication issues that occurred.” The communication issue that occurred was that they did it at all.
* Here’s the worst part: Now when a student really does die texting and they announce it, everyone will laugh.
* Mr. Lueck, good lueck with your next career.
* There should be a channel where we can watch them fire this guy live on TV.
* Wouldn’t that be cool: “We now take you to Wisconsin where we’ll get to watch a high school district superintendent getting canned …”
* Maybe a little post-firing interview: “Sir, what the hell were you thinking?”
PHONE TOPIC: Did your school ever do something like this? Did it succeed in getting through to you?
