RUSSIAN FIGURES OUT HOW TO HACK AUTOMATIC PET FEEDERS

A Russian security researcher said she accidentally found a way to hack all Xiaomi automatic pet feeders located across the world. The feeders use a mobile app to release small quantities of food at certain times of day. Anna Prosvetova, a security researcher from Saint Petersburg, Russia, said she identified vulnerabilities in the system that allowed her to see all other devices active across the world. In total, she found 10,950 devices, whose feeding schedules she could have changed without a password. Prosvetova said the entire process could be easily automated and carried out at scale.
* Actually, she was hired to do this by Garfield and Snoopy.
* How diabolical – hackers could make it so that our pets love us more!
* I’m imagining my dog listening to this right now and taking notes.
* Actually, I can see how this could be used by pet food companies to get people to buy more kibbles.
* Russian authorities immediately reassigned her to hack our voting machines.
