REPRESENTATIVE PROPOSES GENITAL CHECK FOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES

South Dakota State Rep. Roger Hunt (R) plans to introduce a measure that would effectively deny trans high school students the right to determine their own gender identity. As it stands now, a student’s gender – for high school sports purposes – would be determined by whatever it said on their birth certificate. The proposal would make high school athletes in South Dakota — particularly those who are transgender — submit to a visual inspection of their genitals before they participate in a sport. Says Representative Hunt, “This is South Dakota. We haven’t adopted the East Coast culture. We haven’t adopted the West Coast culture. We maintain our own culture.” He also asserted his belief that gender is determined at conception. It’s not clear whether Hunt’s measure would apply only to public high schools in the state, or to grade schools, middle schools and/or public colleges as well.
* I don’t see any way this policy could be abused.
* You need to know that what you see up in your North Dakota matches what’s down there in your South Dakota, if you know what I mean.
* We used to have this when I was in school. It was called a locker room.
* If we let kids start telling us what their gender is, next thing you know they’ll start telling us when they’ve learned enough to graduate school.
* They maintain their own culture? Does it include creepy ideas like this?
* He’s also proposing legislation for a tax on wagon trains.
* No offense, but maybe this guy’s stuck in time there in South Dakota.
* Look, high school genitals should only be viewed the traditional way: when the students sext each other.
* PHONE TOPIC: Is this proposal that unreasonable? How do you determine which team a trans athlete athlete should play on?
